Paraplegic JW example used at assemblies
by Alfred init seems like every time our circuit failed to meet the field service goals set by our co, the very next circuit assembly would invariably include a talk that mentions a chronically ill paraplegic sister who would dial the phone with her tongue to make return visits or conduct bible studies... i must have heard this experience at least 6 or 7 times in the past 20 years or so.
and every time i heard this recycled talk, they would add even more guilt-inducing twists to it.
to me, it eventually became way to difficult to believe...

Supposedly JW's ministry is based on their having a great love for their fellow man. These kind of demonstrations change the motivation from one of love to one of guilt and obligation . There is obviously a problem going on that they need to guilt people into promoting their agenda. The same goes for guilting or blackmailing young ones into getting baptized as the only means of saving their own hide when the Big A comes. -

i'm stupid, right?
by embarrassed ini am on here as another member, but even with a username and not revealing my identity, i am still too embarrassed to use it.

that being said.... my boyfriend is watching pornography, and it seriously hurts my feelings.

You are staying with this clod for the same reason many JW's stay with the religion long after it is obvious that it isn't the truth. It's a case of "Better the Devil they know....than the Devil they don't know" They have no outside friends left, they are convinced they are sinful and flawed and it makes them feel extra virtuous to be somewhat of a martyr for the cause.
Instead of wondering what's wrong with your boy friend or if you are stupid, you need to ask yourself:
1. Do I in someway believe I am at fault or somehow responsible for his actions?
2. Has he isolated me from my friends and family to the point that without him I have no one?
3. Has he or someone else in the past belittled or criticized me to the point that I truly believe I can't do any better?
4. Why don't I understand that this man is constantly finding ways to sabotage himself or our relationship and that I deserve better?
This is an age old problem and you aren't the only one to find herself in this situation. I'm glad you are reaching out to others to help you gather the courage to do what you know you have to do. Once you are free of this situation and have found someone who deserves you, you'll will look back and wonder why you didn't act sooner but mostly you'll be glad you did.

I need help with this one. What do you think I should do?
by Quarterback inmy wife is pleasant and easy to get along with.
she is also helpful to many.
lately, however, there is a jw sister who some are curious about has befreinded my wife.

Does your wife not have a tongue in her head...why should you have to say anything? She should either tell this gal pal that she isn't comfortable with this type of PDA. If your wife doesn't want to say anything directly, she should keep turned slightly toward you and or lean toward you as soon as Sister McFeeley starts making her move.

Now Even JW Men Are Going To Die At The Big A
by OneFingerSalute inso this weekend there was a part about not following jesus at a distance.
the speaker made a big point of stating that any baptized jw male who was not either appointed ms/elder, or at the very least "reaching out" actively, was in fact following jesus at a distance.
he said that the only way to live through the big a was to follow jesus closely.

You can attend all the meetings, go in service and live a clean life but if you're not reaching out to be a Servant or if you're 16 and don't want to get baptized, you're not going to survive Armageddon. You can never do enough according to these guys.
Dead is dead....I may as well die after living a normal life rather than die after spending two thirds of it attending these weekly funeral talks and trying to recruit others to do the same.
Move over Hitler and Ted Bundy....make room for the eternally damned Pete Za'Hut.

I am getting the distinct impression that TOMO 3 is unhappy in his marriage.Imagine what it's like for his wife being married to that jowled old sour-puss who is more like a bitter old lady than a man.

by RAYZORBLADE inok, if you're a canuck, chances you know that gordon lightfoot is about right up there with ol' jehover!.
but if not, nevermind, but i have to admit, i have been a lifelong fan of: gordon lightfoot.. this evening, i took his 'greatest hits' and gave it a listen, and as expected, i was still enthralled with his lyrical genius, and playing abilities.. anyone a gordon lightfoot fan?.
just curious.. all your folks living along north america's "great lakes" keep in mind, next month is the 28th anniversary of the sinking of the "edmund fitzgerald".. that song, by gordon lightfoot is haunting from beginning to end (over 6 minutes).. i personally love: go-go girl in love, bitter green, canadian railway trilogy, sundown, race among the ruins, wreck of the edmund fitzgerald, and well i like just about every damn thing he ever did.. your contributions?

When I was in Bethel there was a particularly cold and bitter winter where we hit below zero weather for several weeks. I remember seeing from my window on those frozen mornings, the big freighters coming up the frozen Hudson river, breaking through the thick ice and seeing it peel back from the bow as they plowed toward their destination. More than once the "Wreck of the Edmon Fitzgerald " was playing on my radio in the background and to this day, that is the vision I have whenever I hear that song.

Do you consider this site Godly or Ungodly
by Truthexplorer inover the years, i have seen a change in heart with the country i grew up in and the general view of what they perceive as how everyone should view things in relation to morality.
a strictly religious country for centuries now forever changed within a short number of years.
i have also seen the viewpoint on this site gradually change in many ways.

I'm still open to the idea that there may be a supreme being out there but I don't believe in God the way the Bible or Christians portray him, anymore. To someone like me who doesn't necessarily believe in God in the standard way, whether this site is ungodly or not, is irrelevant. I see this site as a way for people who are in various different stages in their personal evolution on their way to being fully developed humans, to express their ideas and listen to the insights of others and a place to heal from living a lifestyle that no longer works for us.
Your post, Truthexplorer, reminds me of the mindset of those (over the age of 50)men who are in charge of the Watchtower Corporation, who want anyone who thinks differently than they do, to be silent and or go away. Like almost every older person who has lived throughout history, they have reached a point where they are old enough to recognize the changes in the world that have happened since they were young and they like so many of their ages, are deathly afraid of it. They are also so uncertain of their own faith that they can't bear to hear anything that may challenge it. They shake their walking sticks at the sky and attempt to preserve the assured feelings they had when they were young by viewing the world as broken and unredeemable and they choose to ignore the good that has come along with the changes they are desperately trying to resist.
If you choose to cling on to your own foregone conclusions, do so and feel free to tell us what you they are, but please don't try to come here and reprimand those who have their own views and have expressed them here.

After 2 years my parents make contact. The end result is that I promise them to cryogenically preserve ONLY their heads
by paulmolark init has been 2 and a half years since my departure from the religion.
i was told by my parents from the start that i would never speak to them until i returned to jehovah dog.
a few months later they told people they hoped i died before the end came, then all of this culminating in them telling my inactive / fading sister that they don't consider me a child anymore and they have given me up to satan.
-
Pete Zahut
She continues to rail against me about how she asked jehovah to remove me from her heart
Palmolark: "What an odd request for a Mother to make before the Creator of the universe. Seems like most Mothers would ask that he help them win their children back through Christian kindness and love. I can't imagine what he must have thought of request like that or what he must think of you. Anyway, it doesn't seem like he's answered your prayer because here you are calling me out of the blue."
and that he has replace me with many new "spiritual children" and that she knows that I miss her and my father. She says others have their affection and that if I want to return to jehovah she will be waiting...
Palmolark: "These "spiritual children" that you speak of must all be out of town today or perhaps they've stopped answering their phones when you call and you've decided to bother me instead."
Palmolark: "So let me get this straight....I haven't heard from you in 2 years and you suddenly feel the need to inform me ...by telephone no less....that you're not going to speak me anymore ? Am I the only one seeing the irony here ?until then she wanted to let me know that she would not speak to me or my family again unless we return like "obedient sheep" to jehovah.

This shepherd actually went out on a ledge looking for this "lost little lamb". I guess I we were too old to be considered cute little lost lambs. Apparently nobody cares about full grown sheep because after 25 years of regular attendance service and volunteering at quick builds etc at the same Hall, it took over 3 years before an elder came looking for us after we faded. He came on a rainy Saturday morning with the Circuit overseer and boy did they get an ear full. I invited them in and jokingly said "So what took you guys so long ?" I said, "It's been over 3 years since my last meeting which was the memorial of 2008...not one phone call not one person came looking for us. Seems like you're out knocking on doors looking for new recruits while long time Witnesses living only 2 miles from the Hall, are dying on the vine right under your noses." The Circuit Overseer shot a look at the Elder as if to say "how could you have let this happen?"
